Dems slapped with slander charges Democrat Party spokesman Chavanont Intarakomalyasut and deputy spokeswoman Mallika Boonmeetrakul have been indicted on charges of defaming Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Mr Chavanont and Ms Mallika, at party press conferences between Feb 15-21 last year, accused Ms Yingluck of using official time to meet a businessman at the Four Seasons Hotel on Witthayu Road, prosecutors said. The comments damaged her reputation, they said. Accompanied by lawyer Rames Rattanachaweng, Mr Chavanont and Ms Mallika went to meet Ruangwich Pokai, a special prosecutor, to hear the indictment yesterday. The prosecutor has agreed to postpone Criminal Court proceedings until June 28 as requested by their lawyer. The delay would allow them to prepare their defence and arrange collateral for bail.
