
In the centre of SenateSquare is a statue ofAlexander II, Emperor ofRussia (1855-1881), whowas known in Finland as“the good tsar”.The statue was erected in1894 to commemorate hisinitiatives to reform Finland.Surrounding the base of thestatue are bronze figuresrepresenting law, scienceand art, peace and labour.Senate Square is one ofthe top attractions of thecity because it is home toseveral of Helsinki’s mostimportant landmarks, all builtin the neoclassical tradition.
