Election fraud charges brought against him were trumped up, former House speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat said in final testimony at his vote-buying trial in the Supreme Court yesterday. The Election Commission accused Mr Yongyuth, then a People Power party deputy leader, of offering money to a group of kamnan in Chiang Rai's Mae Chan district in return for helping his sister, La-ong Tiyapairat, win the Dec 23 general election.
