Built in the 16th century by Akbar the Great, Fatehpur Sikri was the capital of the MughalEmpire for 12 years before he moved back to Agra because of a shortage of fresh water. His palace was built in red sandstone. Itcomprises a number of buildings, including a meeting hall where he granted a public audience to commoners.
