Located on the town’s main streetStorgata, Verdensteatret is Norway’soldest cinema still in use. It wasestablished in 1916. Today, it not onlyserves as a cinema but also a lavishcoffee place during the day and a barat night. It inspired the Silent FilmDays in Tromso, an annual festivalthat takes place on the first weekendof September when silent filmsare screened. Such silent moviescome with either original scoresfrom preserved sheet music or withmodern musical interpretations.The theatre opens daily after middayuntil late into the night — 2-3.30amon different days.
