» As we make progress in computing technology and build more complex tools, getting connected to the internet has become easier. Many mobile devices are now equipped with features allowing us to browse the net. In cities, there are free Wi-Fi hot spots and internet cafes around nearly every corner. Communication towers and antennas are sprouting like weeds, expanding internet access to more and more rural areas.

Becoming a grandma in the computer age

Life, Prapai Kraisornkovit, Published on 12/03/2014

» I think that most women have a love-hate relationship with the “G” word. When I first learned that I was about to become a “grandmother”, I admit that I had mixed feelings. Initially, I was very excited when my daughter told me that she was pregnant; I was happy that she would get to experience the joy of motherhood and I was anxious to spoil my grandchild rotten.

    A second chance

» By the third week of January, I knew I was doomed. Like many, with the start of a new year, I made a New Year's resolution. I wanted to eat better, take a better care of my body and sleep and exercise more. They seemed like doable goals. But as the days of January passed, they turned out to be harder to achieve than I thought.

» Recent political activities have been very heated. No matter where I go, I hear people talking and gossiping about the mob and protest activities. Even friends and families are taking sides.

Sugar-coated fun - but at what cost?

Life, Prapai Kraisornkovit, Published on 04/10/2013

» I vaguely remember video games when my children were growing up. There was a console connected to the television and something handheld called a Game Boy. My kids would pull twisted faces when they played video games. "Your faces will get stuck that way," I used to tease them. For me, video games, like comic books and cartoons, were something that kept my children occupied on rainy Sundays. I did my best as a parent to limit their exposure to violence and rationed their video-game-playing time. But personally, I never took an interest.

» When I first heard the news that the Thai police had plans to monitor Line, I immediately scrolled through my Line logs and searched for texts about my sad golf scores and a disastrous picture of me in a not-so flattering dress that I wore a month ago.

» Today is Wan Khao Phansa, one of the many sacred Theravada Buddhism holidays. It signifies the beginning of Buddhist Lent in which monks are to retreat back to the temple and concentrate on studying dhamma and meditation for three lunar months during the rainy season. For many Thais, it is a time to actively engage in merit-making by offering necessities to monks including candles, lanterns and lamp oil that is burned during morning and evening recitation time.

» I have a secret crush. He is in high society, handsome and has ties to royalty. He is kind and sensitive with a heart that can melt an iceberg. We spend weekends together sharing tea and relaxing. That's right, I am infatuated with the khunchai from the hit lakhon drama series Suparbburuth Chutathep.

The perfect flight? It's all about attitude

» Why is it that airline commercials always show images of smiling, comfortable people with perfect travelling experiences when in reality such things are as rare as a unicorn _ especially when you fly economy-class on a long-haul route.

    A design that flops

Life, Prapai Kraisornkovit, Published on 05/04/2013

» There is a common joke among my foreign friends. How many seasons are there in Bangkok? Three _ hot, really hot and hot like hell. I've lived in Bangkok all my life and I agree that the weather is hot and humid all year round. But hot like hell is a bit of an exaggeration. If it is true, then the devil has met his match in the City of Angels.
