'The Protester' won't go away in 2012
News, Published on 01/01/2012
» All in all it looks to be another interesting and possibly chaotic year as nations around the globe try to adjust to new economic realities. At the core of these adjustments should be policies aimed at spreading around wealth and opportunity rather than concentrating it in the hands of a few

It could all be pretty amazing again
News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 01/01/2012
» I trust everyone is holding up well at the height of the funny hats and hangovers season. In a few days it will be back to grim reality _ hangovers without the hats. And I won't complain if I don't hear that ''happy new mia'' Thai joke for a while.

Put 'Happy' in the New Year
News, Published on 02/01/2012
» It was an easy act to let go of the year 2011 and welcome in the New Year, 2012/2555. That is not to say that the past year was without achievement for our citizens. But we could easily have done without the calamities of the past year. The huge crowds drawn to Sanam Luang on Saturday night for a prayerful pre-midnight evening gave voice to the thought all around the country: Let us hope and work for a better year ahead than the one we are leaving behind.

A sobering thought
News, Published on 02/01/2012
» First I thought I was still suffering from my New Year's day hangover when I read SB's astonishing suggestions for the political development in Thailand in 2012 (Postbag, Jan 1). Thai Rath Analysis
News, Published on 02/01/2012
» There will be another round of political conflict this year if the ruling Pheu Thai Party pushes for constitutional amendments that will allow ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to return home without facing any legal consequences of the Sept 19, 2006 coup that removed him from power.

Already over-charged
News, Published on 03/01/2012
» We have all read in the news lately that the electricity generating authority is committing itself to buy even more electricity from the proposed new dams at Xayaburi and Koh Kang even though recent articles state that we have excess capacity now. And with that commitment comes higher charges for consumers who cannot use it. What the electric company needs to do is drastically improve on its current service.

Here's to a clean start
News, Published on 03/01/2012
» It is hard to imagine a better start to a New Year than what most of the country enjoyed. With a couple of glaring and sad exceptions, Thais celebrated the departure of an often unpleasant 2011 and a clean start to 2012/2555.

The law and the prophesy
News, Atiya Achakulwisut, Published on 04/01/2012
» If every single person who spread false rumours and prophesies in this country was to be prosecuted _ by being either jailed or fined _ then Thailand could become either a prison-land or filthy rich.
