Bangkok psycho's on our sofa

» This week Guru chatted with the local artist and photographer Dop Ameen. Originally from France, he began his artistic pursuits here seven years ago during a solo motorcycle/ photography trip around Southeast Asia. He fell in love with what he captured and he's been pushing artistic boundaries in this hemisphere ever since. He has developed a series called Bangkok Psycho, a deviant art concept that focuses on the paradoxical tendencies of Bangkok and its dwellers. » <b>The setting:</b> A stone throw away from Makkasan Airport Link and Petchaburi MRT and nestled high above the hustle and bustle of midtown Bangkok is The Station, Mercure Bangkok Makkasan's answer to luxury, all-day dining. Towering eight floors above a cacophony of car horns and motorcycle engines is an escape into solitude and a gateway to culinary satisfaction. With high ceilings and wall-to-wall glass windows, it offers an open and sophisticated ambience along with picturesque views of midtown and beyond. You'll see snapshots of commuter life, from the airport rail, to the train and the fast-moving Kamphaeng Phet Road which make The Station aptly named. It is also aptly decorated with a theme that pushes its namesake. Tasteful yet subtle designs reflect the atmosphere of a grand central station, with vertical bars on booths that emulate the cattle catcher. The plush seats are reminiscent of the interior in a luxury carriage. Above is a giant sky window with a neat graphic of what looks like the dome of a grandiose train station, really pulling the look of the room together.

Who's watching Richie Moore?

» Richie Moore is an award winning American cinematographer and director based in both Bangkok and Los Angeles. His latest production, Who's Watching Oliver, was his directorial debut and has garnered numerous accolades across film festivals worldwide. Richie has a fascinating story. At 16 he dropped out of high school and began working on film sets. Growing up on productions, he was basically raised by his father's film crew and learned to master the ropes from square one. It's obvious film-making has always been more than a career for him; it's his life. His perseverance as a young worker compelled his obsession for film-making and blossomed his love and respect for the duties and contributions of crew members. Over his career, he's done camera work on some notable titles in Hollywood, including The Hangover (parts two and three), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol as well as Netflix's Marco Polo series. Most recently, Richie made the leap into writing and directing. His debut film, Who's Watching Oliver is an indisputable fan favourite in the film festival circuit. The film's popularity has gained some serious momentum already, winning seven "Best Feature Film" awards, five "Best Actor" awards and tallying up to more than 20 nominations. Guru spoke with the man behind the silver screen to get some insider information on his new flick and to see what makes him tick.
