» It was Otis Redding who introduced me to the sound of Stax Records. I was about 15 at the time, enjoying a frothy coffee with a friend in a cafe in my hometown, Sheffield. I went over to the jukebox and saw a curiously titled song, Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay. I pushed the buttons and the single, with its distinctive yellow finger-popping logo, flipped on the deck and ushered into the smoky fog of a Northern English 'greasy spoon' the heart-rending sound of Southern soul from the US. I've been a fan ever since.
