» As the March 24 election nears, the number of opinion polls have increased. On Sunday, one poll in particular caught my eyes. Super Poll announced the result of a survey, which I unofficially translate to "The Public’s Concern During Election Season". What made this poll stand out is that when they asked people about their specs for PM candidates, they use cryptic descriptions such as "Man in his 50s. Former leader of this country with high position" and "Man in his 40s. Former exec. A political activist." Instead of simply using their actual names like other polls? They did that to avoid violating any election rules, perhaps.

No real choice in Nigerian election

» Lengthy delays before announcing the results of African elections are commonplace (the Democratic Republic of Congo last month, Zimbabwe last July, etc.). It just means that people voted the wrong way, and the government needs time to re-arrange the results before publishing them. Postponing the vote at the last moment is much less common, and not so easy to explain.

Thailand advances Asean energy partnership

» As Asean chair for 2019, Thailand is expected to excel in leading the grouping to collectively address regional issues. Announced by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha last year, the current chairmanship theme of "Advancing Partnership for Sustainability" carries a significant message for the regional cooperation. The word "advancing" is selected to encourage Asean to continuously keep up with and adopt the disruptive technological development of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). With the word "partnership", Thailand wishes all Asean member states (AMS) to strengthen economic cooperation so Asean can play a bigger role in solving global challenges. "Sustainability", on the other hand, reflects how all efforts at national and regional levels should be done in a sustainable manner for all economic sectors. But what does "advancing partnership for sustainability" mean for Asean energy cooperation?
