Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 01/07/2016

» As online streaming becomes more and more common, cinemas try to come up with enticing methods for viewing a film, something that can't possibly be replicated on a couch at home. SF Cinema recently unveiled its new MX-4D cinemas, the latest in immersive, 4D movie-viewing. Members of the press were invited to one of them last week to watch Independence Day: Resurgence.

A musical that uses every emotional colour on the palette

Life, Melalin Mahavongtrakul, Published on 01/07/2016

» It's 1980s in Dublin, and there's a boy, a girl and music. That's how Sing Street can be summarised in a few words. But when you have John Carney -- director-writer of Once and Begin Again -- at the helm of this musical comedy-drama, you know the film is so much more than just a simple boy-meets-girl story.

Blonde, bruised and stalked by shark

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 01/07/2016

» They're hyping this one as "the best shark film since Jaws". Seriously? The muddy psychological waters of the 1970s -- the collective fear and anxiety lurking in the Vietnam War years channelled into a shark -- has given way to the lone, existentialist despair of the iPhone generation of the 2010s. In the Steven Spielberg film, we're swept into the hunters' dark obsession, the exorcism of the demon within and without; in The Shallows we have something much less complicated: survival. And it helps that the person struggling to survive despite being stranded just 200 hundred yards from shore is played by Blake Lively -- blond, bruised, brave, sun-tanned and bikini-clad.

    Don of Panini

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/07/2016

» Food truck veterans, you should already have your fill of burgers and grilled cheeses by now. And if you're looking for a new type of sandwich to sink your teeth into, pay Panini Mafia a visit. This one-week old food truck in Soi Phaya Nak next to Asia Hotel is themed after Italian crime families or the mafia, duh. But there's nothing scary about this as Panini Mafia are just being tongue-in-cheek about it.

    The Rustic Man

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 01/07/2016

» We all have that friend, colleague, family member or beau perhaps who seems to wear the exact same thing day in and day out. (Or maybe this is you!) Whether you approve of his monotony of style or not, you have to admit that his outfits make the most out of practicality, probably sit on that coveted cusp of appropriate and hella comfortable and, most importantly, are integral to his presence. Let's not try to change what's already perfect, people, but offer our "shirt and jeans" kinda guy discreet options for a wardrobe update onlookers may not notice but he certainly will. After all, that's all that really matters.

» BeatRoot (1747/9 Chan Kao Road, Sathon), tucked away in a small soi off Narathiwas Road, is an up-and-coming yoga studio with an organic hair salon, nail salon and juice bar. The studio, which opened in 2015, has a rustic feel with a modern twist: a mixture of geometric shapes and wooden décor, with lush greenery and potted plants to complement the setting. BeatRoot's aesthetic is similar to that of a Khao Yai home in the mountains -- a refreshing getaway for city folks that's just a short taxi-ride away.
