Mini enduro race comes to the capital

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 03/04/2014

Quite a few people now own the expensive enduro rigs, and even more are dreaming of getting one. There is even a Facebook group, created earlier this year, where Thai enduro enthusiasts can exchange news, views and passion concerning this particular genre of biking. However, there has never ever been an enduro competition in this country.

More than a beach getaway

Life, Karnjana Karnjanatawe, Published on 27/02/2014

» You may have visited Koh Chang before and might, like me, have always turned right, towards the west, after disembarking the ferry. Of course, after five hours on the road from Bangkok to Trat and a 30-minute ferry ride from the mainland to the island, you surely want to pay a visit to the white sand beaches and crystal clear water.

» From March 28 to April 7, those wishing to taste and buy Samut Songkhram’s famous lychees are invited to the “Great Lychees of Samut Songkhram Festival” which will be held in front of the provincial hall. Lychees from Samut Songkhram province are famed for their sweetness. The most popular strain is khom, which bears a sweet, crunchy heart-shaped fruit covered with a dark red peel. Orchards here yield a total of 6,000 tonnes of lychees per year.

Rush-hour revelations

Life, Peerawat Jariyasombat, Published on 27/03/2014

» Negotiating the busy streets of central Bangkok by bike can be a hair-raising experience at the best of times. In broad daylight, one at least has a better chance of seeing manic motorists, jaywalking pedestrians, dozing dogs and other obstacles in time to take evasive action. Which is why I am so nervous about signing up for a bicycle tour of the city, organised by a firm called Co Van Kessel, which starts just before sunset.

Delta Diversions

Life, Karnjana Karnjanatawe, Published on 06/03/2014

» The noise made by the engine of the long-tail boat was so familiar that, if I were to close my eyes for a moment, I could easily pretend I was drifting along some quiet stretch of the Chao Phraya. But the river I’m on is actually in southern Vietnam. It’s called the Can Tho, the same name as the province it runs through and its main town, the largest in the Mekong delta.
