    Send in the clowns

    News, Postbag, Published on 27/11/2016

» The State Enterprise Policy Office urges State Railway of Thailand (SRT) land development as a quick solution out of debt (BP, Nov 25). Who does it think it is kidding? The SRT is a bottomless pit as its debt piles up deeper and deeper due to inept management, lousy service, filthy, antiquated rolling stock, the inability to maintain any normal scheduling, and free rides.

    Very slow learners

    News, Postbag, Published on 09/09/2017

» In his Sept 8 letter Songdej Praditsmanon writes that student Netiwit Chotiphatphaisal "was already condemned by fair-minded individuals and cursed by many alumni" but what he doesn't explain is why. To some of us simple minded non-Chula graduates it appears that Mr Netiwit has clearly understood the message from King Rama V given in 1873 when he expressed "the necessity of rebuilding a more equal relationship between different groups in society". Follow Buddha's wisdom

    News, Postbag, Published on 28/05/2017

» In her May 25 article, "How our education sustains dictatorship", Sanitsuda Ekachai outlines clearly how the militarisation of Thai education harms not only education, infamously failing for decades, but also how the pernicious effects of the centralised command over young minds oozes out to pervade all of Thai society, to the great harm of society, politics and morals. The malaise does indeed start in the official Thai education hierarchy.

    Rules of the game

    News, Postbag, Published on 10/08/2016

» If someone illegally takes control of a ship its called piracy and it's a very serious offence. When people interfere with the planned flight of an aircraft it's known as hijacking and carries a severe punishment. One would think an even greater offence would be the illegal ousting of an elected government by an armed group, commonly known as a coup d'etat which in some countries would carry the most extreme penalty.
