Depressed man tries to kill friend

» Police responded to reports from a Jomtien condominium complex that a man was bleeding profusely. Ake Phudradup, 48, said he had been attacked by Sanit Phromboon, 40, with a sharp-edged implement. Arrested shortly afterwards, Sanit said he was a drinking buddy of Ake for several years but he had recently heard a rumour that Ake had had sex with his wife. Ake denied the allegation. The injured man was taken to Banglamung Hospital for stitching whilst his attacker was remanded in custody on violence charges.

Imposters use fake warrant and violence

» Wuttipong Boonma, owner of an internet cafe in Banglamung, was assaulted by men professing to be copyright agents. The unidentified men presented what looked like a fake warrant claimed to be from Pattaya court. When Wuttipong protested, the fraudsters broke his jaw and escaped with several computers. Police said they would question the owner further once he recovers from the attack, and that they would check the café’s CCTV.

Thai drunk hooligan wounds Brit in city

» British tourist Mark Anthony Strickleton, 53, was attacked by a drunk on Walking Street when the two men accidently bumped into one another. The Brit suffered a serious neck wound. Police later arrested 27-year-old Montri Kanghan, who admitted that in his drunken state he overreacted to the bumping incident. He also splashed the remains of a drink in Strickleton’s face. Police said that the assailant had previously been arrested for public violence, calling him a hooligan when under the influence of alcohol.

Russian hung by a shoestring

» A 55-year-old Russian was found dead hanging by a shoestring. Dongtan-based police responded to the Dragon Beach Resort when staff reported having found the guest dead in his bathroom. Alexandre Ivanov had died about three hours earlier after making a loop over the shower with a black boot lace. There were several empty bottles of alcohol on the room’s balcony and no sign of foul play. The Russian had checked into the hotel with his wife, but there had been constant arguments and violence leading the wife to check out. A cleaning lady, Urai Phaokang, added that she tried to gain entry to the room several times before realizing something was wrong. Security staff gained admittance and found the deceased.
