Function, form and a fab bod

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 13/01/2017

» If you're in need of that extra push to get in shape this year, look no further than F45, a brand new functional training studio tucked inside Novotel Bangkok Hotel on Soi 20. We tried out three of their classes, survived and now can confidently tell you that you'll be tired AF and sweating out from every single one of your pores (even if you're a regular gym-goer).

» Those familiar with the MMA scene in Thailand may have already heard of Rika Ishige. Her nickname, "The Smiling Assasin", should already give you a clue as to who she is. This chika isn't just another pretty face, she's also the first Thai female MMA fighter that will be competing at the ONE Championship (fb.com/ONEChampionship) happening next week. She talks to us about what it's like to date and train with her other half, what she thought of the Rousey-Nunes fight and the common misconceptions people have about MMA. Knock 'em out, Rika!

    Sibling power

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 25/11/2016

» Paopanga "Pao" Siddhigu and Bussabhawan "Pook" Siddhigu are the founders of FITCRAZE (www.fitcrazeth.com), an online store for fashionable sportswear. But don't let their sweet-looking faces fool you — they have every intention of building their start-up into a sportswear empire. Pao ingeniously combines her experience in e-commerce with Pook's extensive knowledge of the high-end fashion industry and together they have created an online community catered to those who like to shop and share their passions for their active and fashionable lifestyle. Guru chats to the siblings to find out more about their business, the latest trends and which IG accounts to follow for some fitness inspiration.

    Mission possible

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 16/12/2016

» Remember the heyday of muay Thai gyms opening up like crazy and gloved-up ladies taking longer to pose for a good Instagram snap than they did hitting the bag? Well, we do, and we're sure glad to see that the trend has died down - maybe just a tiny bit.

    Muscles, measured

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 30/09/2016

» I recently checked out BASE's signature group class "BASECAMP" which integrates both HIIT and strength training into each of their circuit-style stations. Getting the right balance between the two means burning fat, improving your cardio, building and sculpting muscles. Perfect for someone like me who enjoys the occasional run (and probably too much chocolate cake) but would probably never voluntarily pick up a dumbbell in the gym.

    Not your usual lunch ladies

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 02/09/2016

» Anyone who has ever worked or is currently working in the F&B and hospitality industry knows that the word "easy" is not a part of the job description. And anyone who says otherwise, is probably not doing it right. From dealing with difficult customers and unreliable suppliers to spending long hours on your feet in the kitchen working under tremendous pressure, there are a myriad of reasons that make working in F&B sound far from a dream job to most. But there are those few out there who welcome these challenges and manage to do it with a smile still intact.

    Pumped-up pedalling

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 22/01/2016

» Last week, I lost the love of my life: my Bluetooth headphones. They were no longer playing music the way they were supposed to, only blasting out incoherent sounds from one of the buds. Sure, I tried turning them on and off, charging them, hitting them against the wall a couple of times. But it was too late -- my best gym buddy was dead.

» Following in Dubai's footsteps, Thailand is now seeing some of the most incredible entertainment centres. It seems as if there's nothing this country can't do -- from snow towns and trampoline parks to surfing complexes, we've got it all. Or so it seems.

    Splish, splash, spin

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 06/11/2015

» When I first heard about Aquabiking, I was sceptical for a couple of reasons. My idea of surf and turf sounds much better on a plate than a new form of exercise. And cycling in the pool? That's crazy. I suppose I did have a similar thought when the antigravity yoga craze took over the world. Practising a sun salutation is difficult enough on normal ground -- do we really need to be wrapped inside stretchy fabric and hung upside down?
