Empire of joy
Life, Karnjana Karnjanatawe, Published on 31/05/2021
» The midday sun is almost unbearable. During the dry season, farmlands crack. Nothing is growing. It is hard to imagine that the area along Highway 2074 (the Buri Ram-Nang Rong road) in Khu Muang district in Buri Ram province can one day become fertile land.

Enchanting Pak Tor awaits discovery
B Magazine, Published on 03/05/2020
» Charming cities attract and induce visitors to visit again and again, which is a boon to the local economy. While many provinces have cemented their place as established tourist attractions, some lack distinctive tourism qualities as they do not offer much in terms of entertainment for typical tourists. Instead, they draw visitors due to their serenity where livelihoods and the social fabric of communities have remained unblemished. As such, Pak Tor district stands out as one of those most fascinating places to visit.

Farmer brothers
Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 31/08/2018
» Mitdanai "Port" and Phundanai "Peat" Sathavonmanee co-founded CORO FIELD (fb.com/corofieldTH), a Japanese-style agro-tourist destination in Ratchaburi, in 2015. Since then, the brothers have branched out with a café in Esplanade Ratchada and a dessert shop in CentralWorld while Coro Field thrives as an example of what agriculture 4.0 looks like. We talked to them about their green ambition to plant a seed for modern farming while helping Thai farmers.

Made in Thailand
Guru, Published on 05/07/2019
» To say that Thailand has been getting global recognition lately may be a bit of an understatement. After all, it's not a secret that it's a famous tourist destination with plenty of beautiful beaches and street food that's been topping lists for years now. Of course, these are only just a few things Thailand is well-known for but we don't really have the time to get into all of that (*cough* rigged election *cough*). However, people from the outside may have a narrow view of what Thailand and its culture really is, but fortunately, there are things that help put a spotlight on these things. The next instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise is filming right now in parts of Thailand, including Krabi where its governor stated that the film would be a "great advertisement for the nature, culture and history of the kingdom". Erm sure, that's what the Fast and Furious franchise is all about anyway. While the film will most likely be more about cars zoom-zooming and vroom-vrooming, there are a number of shows on TV that give a better focus on Thai culture. Here are a few.

How did it start?
Life, Published on 09/02/2017
» It's hard to say who was the first tourist in Siam, because tourism as we know it didn't exist until a few centuries ago. Indian merchants sailed here in the 5th century, the Chinese came to trade and later to settle, and one of the earliest European travellers were the Portuguese, arriving in Ayutthaya in 1511. In 1680, Ibn Muhammad Ibrahim, a Persian, visited the land and recorded his impressions -- "All around us were trees that never feel the withering touch of autumn" -- while the first guidebook to the Kingdom was written by local resident J. Antonio in 1904. (Its most highly recommended activity is the shooting of birds and mammals.)

It's an organic party at Patom
Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 06/10/2017
» The setting: Off the main street of Thong Lor (down Thong Lor 25 if you're coming from the BTS) is what can only be described as a jaw-dropping, high-ceilinged glass house and oasis with a garden. Patom, which in Thai means beginning, also recalls the area of Nakhon Pathom from which all its organic produce and raw materials come from. The family behind the renowned tourist destination of Sampran Riverside (more often known as The Rose Garden) bought the land alongside the Tha Chin River some 53 years ago and across from that property lies Patom's organic farm which is certified in accordance with IFOAM, EU and Canadian standards. Here, fruits herbs and vegetables are grown. Patom also gets its organic produce from other local farmers in Nakhon Pathom that are supported by BLISS, a foundation set up by Patom's founders. Alongside fresh organic produce and lunch boxes prepared daily, one can also head to the store to stock up on cold-pressed juices, drink hand-picked Chiang Dao coffee while sitting outside in the serene back garden and purchase a number of different natural body care and skin products. All products are either 100% organic or made using natural and local ingredients, with as much of the components being as organic as possible (from 30% upwards).
