The wolf of whiteline

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 03/02/2017

» If you're a night owl and enjoy the chillaxed creative community of Silom (over Sukhumvit's), then for sure you've been to Whiteline and Safe Room a few times. Opened for two years now, this nightclub/alternative art venue has made a name for itself with standout events like the annual 60 Second Film Festival, which is coming around again in a week. We wanted to get to know the guy behind this cool hub, so we called up Oliver Wolfson and asked if he preferred cats or dogs — among other questions.

A Frame Has No Name

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 15/07/2016

» We're not unimpressed by the option of frames and shades spectacle labels have to offer this season. Oh no, not at all. Just the names of all their fabulous products are kind of a downer when getting round to ordering new glasses: "I'd like to get the RX4246V please" or "the SPR 56S". Geez, even typing that felt like accounting. Wouldn't it be added value to the consumer's experience to have more relevant and memorable product names to recite with enthusiasm at checkout? That's why we decided to rechristen some of our favourite designer eyewear from this season. You're welcome.

A true renaissance man

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 13/05/2016

» Passionate about the field of design and educated abroad extensively, Kompit Panasupon never thought he'd wind up back in Bangkok, much less become a key player in his father's serious business of academia. MAC Education, which started off as a tutoring school in the 70s, has become one of the biggest textbook publishers in the country and is understandably a big responsibility. We visited the busy 31-year-old (and his two cats) to talk about his work and views on education, but in the process, unlocked surprising facts that reveal that he never really quit being a man of the arts.

Black on Black on Black

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 14/10/2016

» There's no doubt fashion's favourite colour is the darkest one. Just see how much of it is worn by fashion bloggers, writers and even the designers themselves at any fashion event in any season - keeping in mind that these are the industry's innovators. As a witch b*tch myself, I have to argue for the community that wearing black isn't just an easy option to looking edgy, as it may appear. Think about this: no other colour is as bold and non-distracting at the same time. This unique characteristic subsequently lends an all-black outfit the freedom -- no, the power! -- to express itself head-on with forms and textures. In other words, wearing black demands attention to an unmistakable message of style. Whether you're giving me a psychic hellyas right now or you're still not quite onboard the dark train, feast your eyes on some gorgeous black3 ensembles that'll prove that the dark side is the best one.

"Dress Nice"

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 26/08/2016

» Perhaps some of you can relate: you know what casual looks like, you know what formal looks like, and let's be real, you know what smart-casual is too. But these categories of clothes clearly don't cover the spectrum of outfits you need as an active member of urban society. Specifically, it's that gap between smart-casual and formal we're referring to. How do you go from your nine-to-five to an "oh it's no big deal, but Woonsen and Chompoo will probably be there" kind of event? When you think about it, the obscurity makes the situation more stressful than an unmistakable black tie dress code.

IG cute girl

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 05/08/2016

» Whether you'd own up to it or not, being cute on Instagram is everyone's agenda. Oh, stop the denial, stop it. There's no shame in wanting that photo of yourself in a girly off-the-shoulder top and perfectly bouncy hair at the Commons or the House for Sunday brunch. Add in a pensive look and an inspirational quote from @thegoodquote.co in the captions and you're officially a pro at being Instagram cute. But that's getting a bit ahead of the article. Before you set off into the sunset with posing and choosing filters on VSCO, you need the essential outfit. We break down the mainstays of "IG Cute Girl" fashion and introduce four shops where you can find such items.

Looking the part

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 01/04/2016

» To get us off our lazy bums in this sweltering weather, race organisers have come up with fun runs where there's more merit placed on how good you look than how fast you run. (Seriously who actually cares who wins these races anyway?) Here are the micro races you should be gearing up for this summer and suggestions of what to wear to them to avoid being boring.

» As spring menswear lines are finally coming through, we'd like to round up a few of the most scintillating ideas and trends. Otherwise, we'd be writing about the latest shade of T-shirt white or blue jeans blue. You wouldn't want that, would you? But be warned, some of the trends we present take great balls to pull off.

Workin' local

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 08/01/2016

» This is the time of year many of you reset your exercise clocks, which somehow managed to die on you midway through 2015, if not earlier. No biggie. You know the routine: get a new gym membership, set new -- or old -- goals and blow your cash on brand-new athletic gear to get you motivated.
