    foreigners have got no rights?

By majoy, Created on: 24/03/2010, Last updated on: 12/04/2010

» We moved to this new house six months ago and everything is fine except for the noisy dogs next door. I spoke to the owner and asked if they could make their dogs quiet and she said it's not their dogs fault but the dog opposite who always stand outside their gate and make their dogs bark...how ridiculous!...

    • faranginkorat commented : here is a difference between "freedom" and "anarchy"? If you can't hear your television when sitting in your livingroom, or sleep in your own bedroom, how "free" are you? The Thai style solution would be to poison the dogs. When the neighbor blames you, tell them that the dogs bothered all the neighbors, not just you.

Nobody has any right to peace and quiet in Thailand, not even when they are in their livingrooms watching TV or in their bedrooms trying to sleep. This is true for everybody in Thailand, Thai or foreign. Some of the worst offenders are; 1. local government offices in the countryside that start blasting news and music from poor quality loudspeakers every morning about 5:30 - 6:00 AM 2. Walls Ice Cream, a division of Unilever, one of the largest companies in the world, who shamelessly disturb the peace of residential neighborhoods in hopes of a 20 baht sale 3. everybody else trying to sell something in Thailand. When will they understand that there is a difference between "freedom" and "anarchy"? If you can't hear your television when sitting in your livingroom, or sleep in your own bedroom, how "free" are you? The Thai style solution would be to poison the dogs. When the neighbor blames you, tell them that the dogs bothered all the neighbors, not just you. [/quote:2j2sthw4] Totally disagree with the generalizing closing statements. It’s my belief that the majority of Thais wouldn’t resort to that solution. You’ll really be asking for trouble if you told the neighbour what you suggest. That’s dangerous, presumptuous thinking! You’ll have the neighbourhood turning against you. Potentially more serious trouble.
