Anonymous commented : boys in northeastern Kalasin province found that only 24 percent of them regularly used condoms as they believed it was safe to sleep with someone they knew, it said in a statement. The survey also found that the average age of boys having sex for the first time had dropped from 16 years of age in 1998 to 14 years, due at least partly to their exposure to a more permissive society." This dream of maturity sounds good in theory, but is not easily achieved (I would say impossible to achieve). If you do not allow young people to get married, then they WILL have premarital sex. They will do it in secret (due mostly to the parents forbidding it) and therefore be on their own, chose completely inappropriate partners, bond and then break up (or get ripped apart by our society). The first break up is the worst, crying and not eating for a week, it gets easier every time after that (less of your heart gets ripped out). Then bond again, break up again, listen to their parents telling them sex is bad, yet confused by the powerful signals from their bodies. So the boy is wandering around over here getting his head and heart totally screwed up, the the girl is wandering around over there getting her head and heart totally screwed up, then then we expect them to get together after all this trauma (when they are "mature") and forget everything about the sex is bad and the break ups and the heartbreak, and love each other forever. Quite a confusing message. It's no wonder our kids are confused!! Soon they get pretty good at breaking up. So it should be no surprise when our divorce rate skyrockets. We inadvertently train our kids to be good at breaking up, and then we are surprised when they can't stay together. So after many train wrecks (and probably a few children both in and out of marriage), and inner reflection, this person makes a concious decision to make it work. Great. This type of relationship is just a shell of what if could have been, vibrancy and love replaced by pragmatism. But if this is what you mean by mature, then sorry to say, but I don't want my daughter to be "mature" when she gets married. It was never this way before for many thousands of years. Try to understand that I agree with you that sex should be saved for marriage!! The point I am trying to make is that many years ago, this was EASY!!!! People got married BEFORE their biological urges started. Then incredibly strong bonding occured, therefore few breakups, very few single people to temp the married, in short it was EASY to achieve this. Can you understand what I am saying?? The very situation everyone desires (no sex outside marriage, low divorce rate, etc.) was EASY to achieve before. It was not difficult. It was EASY!! We have arbitrarily decided that you should be "mature" before you get married. This is exactly what is causing all the problems. This is not an unsolvable problem. We have done this to ourselves. By the way all of the information you posted about age of concents is available in my very first post by clicking on the link I provided. So thanks again for your post.

Anonymous commented : ospitals and clinics in other provinces. And there are numerous private hospitals in Thailand. Public hospitals are operated by government with lower pay scale, but the benefits and free insurance are attractive to lot of people. You will have to pick where you would like to live beside Bangkok. Do you like the mountains and the sea? If you do, then southern Thailand is your choice. Northeast or Northern Thailand with mountains and forests, or Eastern and Central provinces with close by the sea and lowland forests. I would not want to live in Bangkok. But Bangkok is not too far from other provinces comparing to large country like USA. If you like to visit Bangkok often, I would suggest that you find provinces that is no more than 2 hours highway drive away.

Anonymous commented : hools and univerisities. The provinces surrounding Phuket are also very exceptional. I think Phuket will be a nicer place after the reconstruction. Thai government will start to enforce and regulate new city plannings and codes. There are both private and public hospitals on Phuket and the surrounding provinces. Krabi has sizeable retirement communities. If you like sea foods and the sea, I would recommend any provinces south of Bangkok Metroplex starting from Phetchaburi to Songkhla.

Anonymous commented : severeal - both in the provinces (even remote) and in Bangkok, and would recommend all of them. Ditto every one of the many doctors clinics I've been to.

Anonymous commented : Thai government is promoting solar power now. These is Thai owned solar power company called Solartron in the Korat Province. They are supported to double their capacity this year since Thai government is now promoting and subsidizing rural and remote solar power usages. Solartron does have their showroom in Bangkok. You can check out their website at, www.solartron.co.th I am also planning build a off-grid home as soon as the price become more affordable.

Hejsan commented : The ethnically Malay southern provinces have never (until now) been culturally Thai. They used to be semi-independent sultanates between British Malaysia and Siam. Those two larger countries divied up the smaller sultanates. As for the rprovinces that still speak Khmer (Surin, Buriram, and Sisakaet), they used to belong to Cambodia and their populations are largely ethnically Khmer not because of immigration but because of Thai expansion. Cambodia (or Angkor) incorporated much of modern day Thailand. The Thais came down from China 800-1000 years ago and declared their first state, Sukhothai, independent from Angkor 800 years ago. Since then, peaceful happy Thailand has expanded whilst its 'evil, warmongering neighbours' have lost land to the new kingdom. The talk of ethnically Chinese Thai citizens being in cahoots and determined to keep their wealth is interesting. We all know that Thailand is incredibly racially aware, and such groupings may actually exist. Certainly this issue was also in focus during the PAD demonstrations and blockade of Suvarnabhumi as well. I shall follow this forum with renewed interest after reading the many thought provoking posts here. As for the property issue, it has kept me from establishing a permanent residence in thailand, but I do find the Thai people charming in spite of the tendencies to discriminate against foreigners, rich and poor, western and eastern alike. We all know how Burmese and Cambodians are treated in Thailand. By comparison, we are rather lucky...

Anonymous commented : on the island in Surat Thani province. Three others _ Peter Buch Rosenberg, 35, of Denmark; Pratheep Muangkaew, who runs an accounting firm on Koh Samui as well as being a prosecutor attached to the Labour Court in Bangkok; and Samroeng Buanak, a local influential figure _ remained at large. The Koh Samui raids were conducted by teams of police and officials from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Office of the Narcotics Control Board and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO). The raids targeted luxury hilltop villas and business venues in four villages on the island. DSI chief Pol Gen Sombat Amornvivat, assistant national police chief Pol Lt-Gen Chalor Chuwong and Police Region 8 chief Pol Lt-Gen Kamol Huayhongthong yesterday flew to Koh Samui to interrogate the suspects. Pol Gen Sombat said the raids came after receiving information from the British, Danish and Swedish embassies that members of the Bandidos motorcycle gang in Thailand had colluded with a British mafia group to buy up extensive commercial interests on Koh Samui. They allegedly ran many businesses on the island, including property developers, restaurants, entertainment and tourist enterprises, as fronts for unlawful activities. The foreign suspects are believed to be members of the criminal organisation. It is not known if Mr Pramual is also a member. Some Bandidos chapters have been accused of operating a trans-national crime network involved in drugs, extortion, human trafficking, weapons smuggling and money laundering. Pol Gen Sombat said the motorcycle gang extorts money from local businesses on Koh Samui or uses drug revenues to take them over. They have also bribed local officials to issue illegal land ownership documents on public land. Amlo will be asked to take legal measures against those involved in money laundering, said the DSI chief, adding seven cases of land encroachment on Koh Samui were being investigated by his department.
