    Rude immigration staff

By ChiefSealth, Created on: 27/04/2009, Last updated on: 19/08/2010

» Is it just me or have you also notice how rude and disgruntled the Thai immigration staff seems to be at BKK? • pachangamac042 commented : TiT, no idea what obsessions do Thais have with putting departing foreigners behind bars. In many countries, this foreigner would have been allowed to leave the country and depending on the charges, he could end up blacklisted. 3 weeks in jail for “offending” an officer and 500 Bath fine. Do the authorities really not realize how silly they are and what damage they do to the country? Regarding the unfriendly staff at immigration, well, after entering Thailand on more then 20 occasions I fully confirm this statement. But on the other hand, can anybody imagine having to do a boring job like stamping passports all day long? I am not sure, I would be cheered up too much. When I heard first, that new immigration officers were instructed to smile to entering and leaving guests at Suvarnabhumi airport, I thought, what a great idea. Unfortunately, it seems that the immigration people have never been told about the new immigration guidelines. But then again, the unfriendly immigration folks are a perfect window to Thailand and to what you will experience once you clear customs. My suggestion to AoT, bring the PAD tugs with their ladyboy Ramwong dancers back to the airports. That could loosen up the whole immigration hassle.
