News and commands from the future

» With the announcement of Apple's Q1 2015 figures released just a few hours ago, I expect there are already several reports online explaining the numbers and telling us why Apple is succeeding. Or failing. It depends on whose words you read. One thing the negatives will suggest is that what goes up, must come down, so in the final analysis Apple will fail. Just not yet.

» Last week, Apple announced its First Quarter 2016 results. Income was within Apple's guidance, but that did not stop Wall Street from deciding that Apple was doomed, despite the largest quarterly profits from any company ever. If Apple were a country, its GDP would give it a ranking of 42 (Thailand is 29).

» On May 2, Apple will announce its Second Quarter Results for 2017. The conference call is scheduled for 2pm Cupertino Time on Tuesday, which is around 4am Wednesday here. Ignore these: Apple does its own thing and is usually right in the long run.

» The arrival of the Touch Bar with the MacBook Pro brought into focus how some of us use our devices, especially personal computers. The emphasis here is on the word, "personal". Over the last three months (a MacBook Pro arrived in my hands in the last days of November) I have been able to incorporate the features that the Touch Bar provides into my workflow.

A number of additions and changes were made to iPhones and iPads, while new Apple Watch bands were also announced. Apple updated its Swift Playgrounds app with new languages and announced Clips, a new iOS app for making videos: perfect for sharing on social-networking sites. It will be released in April.

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 08/02/2017
» Last week, Apple released figures for its most recent quarter, which includes the run up to the new year. There was revenue of US$78.4 billion, beating Wall Street experts again. We must wait for the often-predicted doom a little while longer. Apple thinks revenue for the next quarter should be between $51.5-53.5 billion.
