Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 11/11/2016

» We're not just about the "new". We also dig the cool, the fun, the funky and all things slightly hidden from plain sight. So we did a little detour, stepping into one or two "just-opened" venues and we also honed in on some less-discovered (but totally awesome) places. » From a food blog, to a cooking studio. Nhoi Ouypornchaisakul has eaten her way through America, written about everything from family recipes to local street vendors, worked in prestigious kitchens such as Nahm and Bo.lan, and co-founded Bangkok Bold Cooking Studio (503 Phrasumen Road, Fb.com/BangkokBoldCookingStudio) with Supanut Khanarak, the former head chef at Spice Market. Together, they teach Thai cooking classes and host private dinners in a chef’s table style that’s becoming extremely popular among the foodies crowd. She shares with us some of the misconceptions people (yes, even us Thais) have about Thai cuisine and if there’s really such a thing as “authentic” Thai food.

» Isawan "Oil" Sutthinark may be a familiar name in the circle of Thai designers. And although we're huge fans of her super sleek handbags, recently we've been more drawn into her other new project, Suntan Tour (fb.com/Suntantour), a boutique travel company dedicated to free-diving. You may have seen some of her diving pics on Instagram and wondered how she got into the sport? Well, Guru's got you covered as we sat down with our favourite thalassophile to find out more about her unique tour and where, in her opinion, the best places are to free-dive.

    Handpicked hamper

» If we had it our way, the government would reconsider its stance on free speech and developers would stop building so many bloody malls. But since that's not how the world works (or at least Thailand anyway), we think it's probably a better idea to save our breaths, shut our gobs and indulge in the finer things in life instead. After all, it is the holiday season, which automatically means that calories don't count and three glasses is a perfectly decent number of vino to be had.

» If you're guilty of binge watching Chef's Table on Netflix or you like to indulge yourselves in watching food-related documentaries, shows and films, then perhaps we can all agree that food on screen looks seriously appetising. If you've watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi, The Great British Bake Off or that god-awful attempt from Bradley Cooper to play a badass chef in Burnt, then you'll understand.

    The spaces between us

» No doubt, Bangkok has its fair share of issues that hover over the urban landscape. From developers chasing out communities to make way for even more condominiums to the lack of greenery -- and don't get us started on the state of footpaths and the Jackson Pollock-inspired electrical wires we have proudly exhibiting all around town -- there's clearly a lot for our eyes to take in.

» Goodbye Rocket Coffeebar. Hello Siwilai Cafe. Although the swanky spot on the 5th Floor of Central Embassy hasn't exactly shed its skin -- having kept the cool interiors and casual vibe -- it has however, been given a new life in the kitchen.
