Fishing for a Pleats Please Issey Miyake exclusive

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 18/01/2018

» If you're a fan of Pleats Please Issey Miyake, drop by their duplex store at Siam Discovery for an exclusive limited collection which celebrates the brand's 10th anniversary in Thailand. Designed specifically for this event and available only in Thailand, the Japanese brand has decided to splash out with the mede-tai motif, representing the Japanese red sea bream. As this fish is a major part of traditional Japanese festivals and is also consumed for its auspiciousness, it's been chosen for the collection as a symbol of good fortune and celebration. Most importantly, however, the tai was chosen for being a homonym of "Thai", and to honour its decade in Thailand.

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 01/08/2013

» The many jubilant happenings in the United Kingdom are currently making the British well worthy of a spot on world's social radar and our undivided attention. The arrival of a certain baby may have commanded an unwavering spotlight, but another recent royal event is also worth a mark in the record books. To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 60th anniversary on the throne (she was crowned on June 2, 1953) the Coronation Festival was last month held right in the very gardens of Buckingham Palace for the first time.

    Where tea & History entwine

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/08/2013

» Even nine cups of tea a day is still considered a bit much for the typical Brit, but any less would make it an "unsatisfactory tea-drinking day" for Stephen Twining. For the 10th generation descendant of a centuries-old business family, Twinings of London, which has taken part in solidifying tea as a cultural icon of the English, a day gone by without a cuppa leaves him a tad queasy.

» I still remember the day Chai came back to class after meeting a girl during our gap hour when we were still in college. Pat was her name. She had perfectly light, fair skin and she was decked out in pearl earrings, a costly print scarf and a status handbag, according to his description.

    Cute and culturally right on

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 08/03/2013

» As someone who's always on the hunt for novel souvenirs of Thailand to give friends of mine living abroad, I tend to have my eyes peeled for objects of a more distinctive character. So many mass-produced "Thai" products feature elephants that the motif has been seriously done to death. Or else they're plastered with enough gold paint/dye to make any self-possessed local roll her/his eyes in exasperation.

» It's not easy to be the first, not in the retail business. And against ambitions of regional magnitude from CentralWorld and Siam Paragon, Siam Center _ the first speciality shopping centre in the prime area of Pathumwan-Ratchaprasong _ has been struggling with a few renovations and rebranding to keep its long-cherished "cool".

    That's a wrap

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 23/11/2012

» Scarves in Thailand surely play a more aesthetic than practical function _ unless you use one to cover your head to protect it from the sun's rays like a construction worker (not so likely).

    Reel Nostalgic

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 23/11/2012

» It's a toy, but at least it's one that you can actually use to make a living. The Viewmaster has been around in the US since 1938 and has remained popular throughout the decades. Whilst it is no longer a ravishing hit today, its timelessness transcends borders and has been recently sending waves of nostalgia to Thailand. Of course we don't expect you to find pleasure in looking at reels of SpongeBob or Finding Nemo, so there is a catch to what's so special about Viewmaster Thailand.
