Hollywood Movies With Crazy Thai Titles

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 22/10/2021

» Have you been back to the cinema as yet? As I'm browsing through movies for my first flick to celebrate multiplexes reopening (I went with Shang-Chi because duh!), I can't help but notice the difference between Thai posters of Hollywood movies today compared to those from bygone years. While Thai posters of blockbusters today stay faithful by transliterating its English title with Thai letters and translating its subtitle almost verbatim (eg Shang-Chi With Mysterious Legends of Ten Rings), the vintage counterparts are more-is-more and over explained. Not only do they feature different designs that are re-created by talented Thai artists along with Thai titles that have nothing to do with the original titles but also spew several visual spoilers. Time is on our side

Life, Thana Boonlert, Published on 15/08/2022

If the student-led demonstration goes down in history for demanding the boldest political reform, including the role of the monarchy, its resurrection last week proves that the pro-democracy movement is coming of age.

The consequences of gender at work

    News, Published on 28/11/2014

» Until recently, there has been very little analysis of women's role in the economy. Two centuries ago, Mary Wollstonecraft published her proto-feminist A Vindication of the Rights of Women, and in 1869 John Stuart Mill, inspired by his wife Harriet, wrote The Subjection of Women in support of female suffrage. But new evidence is emerging of the cultural barriers to women's economic advancement, which must be addressed if the world is ever to attain its goal of gender equality.

» Since Covid-19 engulfed the world two years ago, "unprecedented" has become something of a buzzword. But while the coronavirus has posed unique challenges at a time of deep global interconnectedness, pandemics are nothing new. The Covid-19 pandemic is not even the only one we are currently experiencing. In much of the developing world, cholera outbreaks are proliferating.
