    Man shot dead on motorbike

    » Police are puzzling over the death of Niran Charnkit, 36, who was shot in the back as he drove his motorbike in South Pattaya. He was rushed to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where he died. Several bullet cartridges were found in the vicinity of the shooting. The police reportedly found methamphetamines on the victim’s body. Investigators theorize that Niran may have had enemies in the drugs business or was trying to cheat a big boss. Police were checking the dead man’s record to see what involvement, if any, he had in trading illegal substances or in the loan shark business.

    Illegal cash collectors threaten police

    » A dozen men were questioned by traffic police as they appeared to be illegally collecting money for parking tickets near the Dolphin Roundabout. The going rate was 60 baht but there was no choice for drivers as some members of the gang behaved aggressively. Officer Somsri Sima was forced to radio for assistance as the gang refused to disperse and told him to mind his own business. When 20 police reinforcements arrived on the scene, the gang fled. However four were taken into custody and all tested positive for drugs. It is believed the ringleader of the parking scam was Sanrak Meesuta who had a large number of parking tickets.

    Sexual violation a dire problem

    » <p>Deputy mayor Weerawut Kharkai hosted a conference on sexual abuse and human trafficking with guest speakers from the Ministry of Justice. Speakers at Pattaya School Number 7 explained that many Thai boys and girls are naïve and easily tricked into sexual exploitation and disgrace which is a problem for all society. Attorney-at-law Kreangsak Sintaveepermpoon said that an increasing number of girls under the age of consent are becoming pregnant and seeking abortions. Both boys and girls are being led into selling drugs, offering prostitution and recording obscene video clips which can end up on the internet. The attorney concluded that a massive education program was urgently needed in local schools to offset the tide of scandal and cynicism.</p>

    Another large drugs seizure

    » Jetsada Thanee, aged 19, was arrested in front of the Darunibada Mosque, Suklhumvit Road, whilst talking on his mobile phone. He confessed that he had bought illegal substances from Chudom Ngampaiboonsab, also 19, who lives in Naklua. A police inspection of the room revealed a total of 5,000 methamphetamine tablets. Police say they are still searching for the principal dealer.
