Action-packed
Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 15/06/2018
» When a popular author passes away, his/her estate seeks a replacement to keep generating income. Hopefully, one who can step into the shoes with nary a squeak. Alas, there have been more than a few squeaks and the replacement -- a competent scribe for the stories he's accustomed to writing -- is unable to make the change. The estate may try others with the same result.

A Chinese empire?
Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 17/11/2017
» As a youngster in the Big Apple during the Great Depression, I recall men with billboard signs with "The world is coming to an end -- REPENT". The people they passed on the streets shrugged them off. l didn't fully understand what it meant, but I knew that threats aren't to be taken lightly.

Pulling it all together
Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 21/07/2017
» What I learned from years of backpacking is that there's no single pattern of development. Every country I've been to has had its unique history, which is why the prospect of globalisation is incongruous and why mother countries couldn't hold on to their colonies.

Smoke jumpers
Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 12/11/2012
» I'd thought that James Patterson, on his own and with co-authors, penned the most novels until I came across Nora Roberts. Under her own name and also the pseudonym JD Robb she has ground out 190 works of fiction to date without a co-author. To her credit, talent-wise she gives Patterson a run for his money.

Terrorist or informer?
Life, Bernard Trink, Published on 19/11/2012
» I first heard the term as a child when my parents took me to see the John Ford movie, The Informer. Victor McLaglen played Gypo Nolan who, for 50, betrays his fugitive friend to the British. McLaglen and hangers on soon drink down the reward and he regrets his act, but it's too late.

» For the most part, writers tell stories but have nothing to say. We are given the plot, character development, dialogue and a conclusion. Ideally it's done _ cover to cover _ in 350 pages. Several authors keep going for 700 pages, a number drag it out for 900.
