    Music Is A Weapon

» Last Friday, singer-songwriter Trai "Boy" Bhumiratna released a song in support of the medical frontliners in the ongoing battle against Covid-19. He later said in a Facebook post that someone had criticised him for not reflecting on the government's shortcomings. He replied, in gist, that music isn't a weapon but is healing and consoling, and he doesn't think of politics with every breath he takes. This didn't sit well with netizens who brought up his past involvement with the PDRC movement that ultimately led to Prayut Chan-o-cha's premiership.

    Beam me up!

» Interest in extraterrestrial things (and beings) make a comeback to the Thai collective consciousness, thanks to asteroid 2006 QQ23 flying by and a viral video in which a local man, who claims to be a medium of Pluto God, warns humanity of 2020 doomsday in an alien tongue. This got us thinking about the local interest in UFOs and aliens, and how Thailand is linked to alien stories in a way that you may not be aware of. We aren't saying we believe in Pluto God or trying to convince you one way or another but there are many pieces of evidence (of varying degrees of credibility) of alleged alien visits to the Land Of Smiles and they are too fascinating not to share.

» Who doesn't like a new Facebook update, right? You may already have experienced a new feature which displays exchanges you have with friends on a post in a new pop-up tab similar to the one that appears at the bottom of your screen when you send messages to friends. » Age and wisdom are conventionally thought to go hand in hand. It just makes sense. The older you are, the more knowledgeable and the more experience you've acquired. It's thus fair to assume you should also have the ability to form sound and coherent statements.

    City as canvas

He is just one of many examples of street artists who have started to get mainstream cred in the last few years. Hotels and restaurants have employed them to adorn their interiors while some have been hired by brands to use their designs. To explore this ongoing trend of underground art going overground, we talk to Bon about his upcoming exhibition, look at a hotel covered in street art, and outline where you can buy products featuring designs from Thai street artists.

    Dine refine

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 13/09/2013

» Recently opened, Aston aims to define expectations you have for a restaurant from the first moment you lay eyes on it. The sign that bears the venue's name is rusty. Vines and foliage creep on a net in front of the building as if there's no sign of human existence. The bare cement building appears as if it has been lightly torched with a mini atomic bomb. That being said, the venue doesn't appear run-down but rather post-apocalyptic chic. However, it may not look too inviting to some dainty khun noos. Don't be scared.
