    Fit in four hours a week

    » You don't need to do endless hours of training on the bike to get fit; we all work and have families with limited free time, but I bet you can all find four to six hours a week to train either on the road or on a gym bike. A lot of training programmes are remnants of the 1980s philosophy of 20 hours a week of training, but my philosophy applied to hundreds of cyclists over the last decade turns the concept upside down, and instead of endless hours of "junk" kilometres, I fit the training around riders' lifestyles with shorter rides of higher intensity for bigger gains. It's really simple maths. Think of it as a Training Intensity score; if you train the archaic 15 hours a week at a training intensity of two, that's a training score of 30. Now ride my "F4" method of four to six hours a week at a higher intensity of five and you end up with the same score of 30.
