    It's all about roots

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 19/05/2017

» <b>The setting:</b> Several months ago an awesome little venue called Roots set up shop in K Village and the place seems to have made an impression on the area as quite the community has now been built around this bar and grill. Crowds gather here regularly, especially during weekends to chillax, eat soul food and listen to good music. The venue is comprised of both an indoor seating area and a large outdoor garden area that has direct access to a children's playground. So, it's kid-friendly and pet-friendly too. Despite the heat, we must admit it's pretty awesome sitting outside. Sip adequately intoxicating drinks and listen to DJs Octave and KC play funky beats while simultaneously watching delicious pizzas and Turkish bread being baked before your very eyes. #chilledvibes

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 07/04/2017

» This week we sit down with actress and theatre enthusiast Bonnie Zellerbach, known by many Bangkokians for her monumental roles with The Bangkok Community Theatre (BCT). From script-writing and directing to stage design, costume design and acting, you name it, she's done it! Little did we know she has also been cast in several international movies, played a nurse to Christian Bale and penned a few plays of her own. An all round impressive lady who has made a huge contribution to Bangkok's theatre and film scene, so definitely worth a read, folks!

    Directing Twelve Angry Men

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 07/10/2016

» Loni Berry, the man behind Bangkok's multicultural, English speaking theatre, Culture Collective, is set to be putting on Twelve Angry Men towards the end of this month, the first of a string of plays the theatre will be staging this season. We're uber keen to see what he's got up his sleeve for this one, considering his Lisbon Traviata won Best Production at the 2015 Bangkok Theatre Festival. And personally, we did love his musically witty Death of Miss America. From Asian stereotypes and homosexuality, to nudity, Berry's performances always tackle prickly topics that make viewers stop and think. We thought it's wise to dig a little deeper into the artistic director who's making such great, mind-altering and risky moves for theatre in Bangkok.

    It's CHOW-time!

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 16/09/2016

» <b>The setting</b>: You may have been looking for an excuse to visit that swanky new hotel that opened a couple of months ago at the end of Thong Lor. Well, CHOW Café and Bar provides you with the perfect opportunity. Situated right next to the Metropole, the casual dining destination's warm wooden interior, high ceilings and open kitchen is so inviting you might not want to leave. As an establishment that aims to be open longer than it's closed, you can find yourself doing one of many things at CHOW, from eating a 4am breakfast, sipping Parisian cocktails late afternoon, to watching a late night movie on the big screen in its second larger dining area. The walls are decked with local contemporary art that's so edgy and eye-catching so it's just got everything going for it really. #lovethisplace.

    Halloween in Hong Kong

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 07/10/2016

» Alright, October is upon us. It's time to drop the H word. H... well hell, a month ago we would have hated saying it! Truth is, we were never really the biggest fans of the tooth decaying celebration Americans call Halloween. And let's be honest, these days, the majority don't dress up in the true spirit of the occasion; it's blatantly become more about how many people you can impress with that rocking hot bod. Come on, admit it. You can't lie to Guru.

    Neon your night

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 29/04/2016

» When talking skyline views, Bangkok's by night is one of the most stunning of ones to look upon. But don't you just get tired of witnessing this city of angels from a rooftop bar on Sukhumvit?
