Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 08/03/2019

» The campaign posters are EVERYWHERE. You either dodge them while navigating your way on a Bangkok sidewalk (of lack thereof it) or scroll down your Facebook newsfeed and see like seven of them without even trying.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/11/2017

» Recently, our dear leader Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha posed six new questions regarding new political parties, which critics have deemed as a way for his regime to pursue its own political interests.

    Are you bampouzled?

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 01/09/2017

» Like many of you, I am lost for words in the aftermath of the Yingluck no-show at the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions to hear a verdict on the rice-pledging case against her last Friday.

    Flippant reactions

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 09/06/2017

» You know how fun-loving and witty Thais can be. While I don't have issues with making light out of a serious situation, some of us go too far sometimes. The most recent flippant example is how some people have reacted to the ongoing saga of the karaoke girl murder. You probably have had enough of it by now so I won't go into details here.

When Adults say the Darnest Thangs!

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 05/05/2017

» Age and wisdom are conventionally thought to go hand in hand. It just makes sense. The older you are, the more knowledgeable and the more experience you've acquired. It's thus fair to assume you should also have the ability to form sound and coherent statements.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/02/2017

» The Thai language can be very tricky. Mai pen rai can mean so many things from "it's alright", "we're cool" to "you're welcome". But when it comes to the use of the Thai language by Thai politicians, you may need to dig deeper. For your entertainment (and at the personal risk of being asked to go in for some attitude adjustment), here are nine of the phrases and words used in Thai politics and what I think they really mean.

    Funny queen bee

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 04/04/2014

» Bon Jakobsen is the queen of funny videos on Thai social media. Since 2010, she has operated a YouTube channel called “bononstage” (youtube.com/bononstage), which began with videos to teach foreigners Thai language she posted while living in Norway. However, what has made Bon a true YouTube star are her parodies of different characters from a hi-so to a pretty to an ab baew. Bon has just started a new show called Jaidee TV Daily (fb.com/jaideetvdaily) where she gives amusing analyses of everything topical from politics to showbiz. Keep yourself up to date while being entertained by Bon (she does a really dead-on imitation of caretaker PM Yingluck Shinawatra, BTW) during weekdays at 7pm.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 27/12/2013

» New Year’s is time to look back at what has happened during the year that is about to pass. The media usually takes this opportunity to do a round-up of memorable moments. As an esteemed publication ourselves, we decided to do our very own recapping of 2013 (and because we’re too lazy to go out and find new stories). The year hasn’t been a thoroughly smooth ride but we were certainly never bored. Bye-bye, 2013!

    Not the news

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/01/2014

» We think we aren’t the only ones who have been glued to our smartphone screens of late, following updates regarding #BangkokShutdown on Twitter and whatnot. Amid the cascade of information and misinformation, one item caught our attention, like a crystal-encrusted golden whistle under the midday light. It was an item about nightlife giant Ku De Ta closing its doors after a series of “bad circumstances” over the past few months that were bad for business with the shutdown being the last straw.
