Time to ease Thai bond market rules
Oped, Published on 14/02/2024
» The Thai bond market, with massive valuations surpassing 16.7 trillion baht as of the end of the third quarter of 2023 and continuous prospective growth, is a crucial mechanism in the capital market and the Thai economy. Net market value could rise by over 386 million baht per year if legal restrictions on bond trading are unlocked.

A tale of liquidity and (too much) debt
Oped, Chartchai Parasuk, Published on 05/10/2023
» Before starting the article, I want to convey a message to the government. The message is "Nothing is free; everything has to be paid for". Acting like Santa Claus is nice, but the government should be aware that every handout gift comes with a price tag.

Put Thais before THAI
Oped, Postbag, Published on 20/06/2020
» I fully agree with Chartchai Parasuk in his June 18 article that "Thai Airways will require 100 billion baht to make up for past and future losses. Without an initial cash bailout, it is almost pointless to discuss business restructuring.

Puey Ungphakorn's honourable but unfulfilled dream
News, Somchai Jitsuchon, Published on 20/04/2016
» 2016 marks the 100th year since the birth of Puey Ungphakorn, top economist and former Bank of Thailand governor. A number of commemorative events were already held, and many more are planned to celebrate this important anniversary in the eyes of many Thais who admire him. But if you ask, you might get different answers as to why he is so hugely admired. He is remembered by some as the founding father of the modern Thai economy; by others as a member of Seri Thai which fought to maintain Thailand's independence during World War II; and yet also as Thammasat University's rector during the troubled time of October 1976, when he had to flee Thailand to live and die in foreign country.

Arkhom risks facing a losing battle
Oped, Published on 08/10/2020
» After a month of waiting, Thailand now has a new finance minister -- Arkhom Termpittayapaisith. Thais and the business community have high hopes for the new minister's ability to help stimulate the sagging economy and steer the country's economy out of the Covid-19 crisis.

News, Chartchai Parasuk, Published on 12/09/2019
