A good quarter for Apple and looking to the future

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 08/02/2017

» Last week, Apple released figures for its most recent quarter, which includes the run up to the new year. There was revenue of US$78.4 billion, beating Wall Street experts again. We must wait for the often-predicted doom a little while longer. Apple thinks revenue for the next quarter should be between $51.5-53.5 billion.

Advances in retail experiences for Bangkok's Mac users

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 25/01/2017

» Research company Gartner claims that 20% of organisations will use smartphones in place of physical access cards by 2020. A few days before reading that, I had been in the new head office of COM7, where staff are signed in and out using iBeacon and a smartphone app. This also controls access to specific areas. I was attending an Open Day at the building in Sanphawut Road, Bang Na.

    Apple's dip: What comes next?

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 04/05/2016

» Everyone knew Apple was going to have a not-so-good quarter, except perhaps Wall Street, which reacted in the only way Wall Street knows how: hitting Apple's share price and claiming that Apple is doomed (again). Some also called for the head of Tim Cook.

    More on the iPad Pro

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 09/12/2015

» Let me first correct an error I made last week: the iPad Pro 32GB with Wi-Fi is of course not the same price as the 128GB version: 30,900 and 36,900 respectively. The 128GB Pad Pro with Wi-Fi and cellular access is 41,900 baht. It is this version that I have been using. The ease with which I am able to work is impressive.

    Quarterly financial results next week

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 21/10/2015

» Next Tuesday, Oct 27, Apple will announce its fiscal 4th quarter earnings at 2pm Cupertino Time (5pm New York). That is 4am here on Wednesday (9pm GMT +7). After the announcements, there is always a question and answer session in which Tim Cook and Luca Maestri do their best to fend off questions about future products. I expect there will be questions about the Apple Car, which may or may not exist. There will be a live audio webcast of the event at investor.apple.com.

    Apple products await Thai approval

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 11/11/2015

» The iPad Pro is expected to be released on Friday, but there is no official date for its arrival in Thailand. Like the Apple TV, I expect users will have to wait a little longer for this and the Apple Pencil that will arrive then, too.

    More new Arrivals

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 30/09/2015

» Last Tuesday morning, the delayed Watch OS 2 update was available after Apple fixed whatever bug it had. The download is shown on the iPhone in the Watch app and installation starts there. It was just over 500MB, but took a long time to arrive and then the installation process itself was slow. The progress ring seemed to stop every time I looked. Some app updates were also slow this week. I expect things will change when the proposed single internet gateway is implemented.

Apple makes buying online -- in English -- harder

Life, Graham K. Rogers, Published on 07/10/2015

» Last Wednesday, not only was there the expected update to OS X, with El Capitan, but version 9.0.2 of iOS 9 was also released and my iOS devices were updated quickly. The first download of El Capitan for my MacBook Pro failed and I had to start again. I also downloaded an update for the MacBook. I left the downloads running and when I came back from lunch, they were ready to roll. I installed the new OS X on two machines at the same time and both were good.
