In the past, theMoken people, or sea gypsies, liked tocome to the islet to dig and find this kindof yam as food. Later, the islet was calledKoh Yipun after a group of Japanesepeople who set up a pearl farm there.These Japanese people were believedto be Japanese soldiers who came toThailand as spies before and duringWorld War II. They were later arrested.
